SISU
The movie Sisu (2023) has been the adventure of a lifetime even when it hasn’t really premiered yet, outside the Toronto International Film Festival and the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantastic de Catalunya. The Finnish premier for Sisu is set for 26th Jan and it will be distributed in the US by Lionsgate.
This film is the second one we composed with my composing partner Juri Seppä and was directed by the great Jalmari Helander, with whom we had the privilege to work. His reputation as a perfectionist is not exaggerated and so the utmost care was taken with every second and frame with the musical things of the movie as expected. Creating the world of Sisu was so very cool, there really was no limits set besides the fact that every sound and note had to make you feel something in a big way. We went boldly towards some unusual sounds and wrote and re-wrote and mixed and re-mixed until we were all sure that we found gold. Experiencing the crowd reactions in the TIFF screening was something joyfully bizarre for someone who has played some big international rock festivals, but never even attended a film festival before, big smiles all around. Variety and many others have rewieved the film and it has gotten a lot of positive attention. In Sitges 2022 Film Festival Sisu won the awards for Best movie, Best actor, Best cinematography and Best music, so obviously me and Juri were happy about that. The real champion here in any case is Jalmari, who made everyone shine.
The Flying Finns
In my childhood in the 80’s the Finnish rally drivers were mythical legends and the sport something that every kid wanted to see and do. Coming up with music for this documentary series by YLE (Finland's national public broadcasting company, 2022) was a nostalgic trip and a fun and even moving one. It was a blast doing the epic opening titles and end credits themes, putting all my studios legendary 80’s synths in good use. Also trying to nail the moods of the dramatized sequences was a good challenge. TFF got The Best TV Film prize in Matera Sport Film Festival in 2022.
Reunion 3: Singles Cruise
Composing, producing and mixing the score music for Reunion 3: Singles Cruise, a feature Film directed for Solar Films by the famous Finn Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger). Movie coming out in fall 2021.
”This was a hilarious task including almost all styles of music you could think of: EDM, Rock, Orchestral, Pop, Indie Cinematic, etc. We wrote the score with composer Juri Seppä and had a great time doing it. Lots of music in this film.”
